I was recently tagged by my friend, Musing Mom, to list a few of my favorite books. For some of these, it’s hard to limit myself to just one, but here it goes!
1. One book that changed your life.
Other than the Bible, which seems like the obvious answer, it would have to be The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen
2. One book that you have read more than once.
Disappointment with God by Philip Yancey
3. One book you would want on a desert island.
The Bible
4. Two books that made you laugh.
The Sacred Diary of Adran Plass by Adrian Plass
At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon
5. One book that made you cry.
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
6. One book you wish you'd written.
Is Your Mama a Llama?
7. One book you wish had never been written.
I can’t remember the title, but it was one by Bret Easton Ellis. When one of my college professors assigned the book, he looked right at me and said, “Some of you may find this book offensive. If you don’t want to read it, that’s fine. I’ll assign you another book and you can sit out on our discussions.” It felt like a dare, so I read the book. I wish I hadn’t.
8. Two books you are currently reading.
Before We Get Started: A Practical Memoir of the Writer’s Life by Bret Lott
Becoming a Woman of Grace by Ruth Haley Barton
9. One book you've been meaning to read.
Silence by Shusaku Endo
Usually I don’t tag people on these things, but given that it’s about books and I love to hear what other people are reading, I’ll tag: Raising Cain, MamaToo, Marmot Mom, Ellen, and Chosen Rebel.
No pressure to participate if you’d rather not, but consider yourself tagged!

Thanks for the tag, Llama Momma. I'll try to come up with a list for my next blog.
1. One book that changed your life.
Other than the Bible, ... War in Heaven, by Charles Williams
2. Two books that you have read more than once. (sorry I had to change it)
Life Together and Letters and Papers From Prison by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
3. One book you would want on a desert island.
The Bible
4. Two books that made you laugh.
Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (Calvin and Hobbes), by Bill Watterson
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
5. One book that made you cry.
Who Broke the Baby? by Jean Staker Garton
6. One book you wish you'd written.
God in the Womb of a Woman [I’m working on it]
7. One book you wish had never been written.
Mein Kampf by Adolph Hitler
8. Two books you are currently reading.
The Man Who Fought Alone by Stephen R. Donaldson
A Light in the Window by Jan Karon (Actually reading this one to my wife each night)
9. One book you've been meaning to read.
The Justification Reader by Thomas Oden
I’ll tag: http://llamatrauma.blogspot.com
Thanks, Ellen. No pressure at all, but I do think it's fun to see what everyone is reading!
Great list, Chosenrebel.
thanks for the tag! How will I figure out how to limit my answers?!
I will think through this and get an answer up soon.
love,
MamaToo
No pressure, mamatoo! And feel free to follow ChosenRebel's example and change the questions a bit, if you'd like. :-)
Hey, I work with 5th and 6th graders, do you know what tagging means to me??
(Once I figured out you weren't going to scrawl graffitti all over my blog...I was excited!) How fun! Let me ruminate and I will get back to you.
Sorry about that Marmot Mom. I forgot who I was talking to!! :-)
Okay, I ruminated.
1.One book that changed your life
Gotta say the Bible, of course, but close seconds would be Phillip Yancey’s What’s so Amazing About Grace? and Donald Miller’s Blue Like Jazz.
2. One book that you have read more than once.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I was apparently ahead of my time in Jr. High…
3. One book you would want on a desert island.
The Bible would be ONE book I’d want on a desert island...I’d also want quite a few others. (Gotcha!)
4. Two books that made you laugh.
Anything by Dave Barry sends me into hysterics. I think it’s because he loves a good stream of consciousness thought as much as I do. (You are reminding me that I need to read more funny books.)
5. One book that made you cry.
Blackbird. A childhood lost and found by Jennifer Lauck. Think you had a hard childhood? Hah! You ain’t seen nothing! I sobbed, yet somehow couldn’t put it down.
6. One book you wish you'd written.
Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott
7. One book you wish had never been written.
A book by Margaret Atwood, the title of which I have mercifully put out of my mind. I had to read it in college. It was something about an albatross being symbolic of something or other. All I remember is that my girlfriend and I got together and burned it when the class was over.
8. Two books you are currently reading.
They Smell Like Sheep, by Lynn Anderson, about spiritual leadership. I am not very far into it, so the verdict is still out. I’ve also been reading Passionate Gardening by Lauren Springer and Rob Proctor for at least a year. It’s about gardening, but its also about life and philosophy, and is very funny. I savor a chapter at a time.
9. One book you've been meaning to read.
Snow Falling on Cedars. Also, any book by Donald Miller.
Thanks for making me think, LM :)
Oh, I got a good laugh at number six!
LL -- at least then my blog name would make sense to people! Another one I wish I would have written is "Goodnight Moon." What a wonderful, simple story. And every child I know owns at least one copy. :-)
1. One book that changed your life.
Other than the Bible:
2. Two books that you have read more than once. All the Lord of the Rings books. Also Harry Potter.
3. One book you would want on a desert island.
Robinson Crusoe
4. Two books that made you laugh.
Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (Calvin and Hobbes), by Bill Watterson
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams (Oddly enough, I was able to just copy these directly, without editing, because they are also some of my favorites. Just finished re-reading Hitchhiker's Guide yesterday. And maybe I'd pick 'Scientific Progress Goes Boink' over Homicidal PJC, but they're close)
5. One book that made you cry.
I get a little weepy at the end of the Return of the King.
6. One book you wish you'd written.
I'd take a piece of the Harry Potter action. Good money there. But I also have to second the person who said 'Goodnight Moon.' I love that book. Or maybe I wish I had written Fahrenheit 451.
7. One book you wish had never been written.
Anything by Joel Osteen. BTW, Robyn, I suspect you were thinking of Less than Zero (or maybe American Psycho)
8. Two books you are currently reading.
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (D. Adams) and going to start Aeschulus and/ Sophocles next (C3's reading them for school)
9. One book you've been meaning to read.
War and Peace.
Clayton (who has forgotten his blogoriphic username, so is inconsistently posting as 'anonymous.'
