soccer

I don’t like sports. I don’t like playing sports and I don’t particularly like watching sports. So, suffice it to say, I’m surprised by how much I enjoy watching my children play soccer. Like, I’m really into it.

The noisy boys are on the same team, and have a game every Saturday. They are adorable in their uniforms, and I love sitting on the sidelines cheering them on. The team is comprised of eight Kindergarten boys and one very patient coach. His own son is on the team, and on Saturday when this boy ran the length of the field kicking the ball the wrong direction, he said, “Buddy, you went the wrong way. But good job dribbling!”

God bless that man.

I do wonder what the kids on the field hear while they're playing. A loud chorus of parents shout, “Go, Johnny! Go after the ball! Kick it!” for an hour while the kids run around, fall down, and routinely lose shoes.

Now, is there any better way to spend a Saturday morning? I didn’t think so.

Great post. I laughed about the lost shoes. So real.

Something about the lost shoes in particular just makes me laugh, and serves as an important reminder: these are Kindergarteners. Let's play and have fun, keeping in mind that we're all just five. :-)

I wonder if you are playing at the same field that I was at. We have a game every Saturday, too. I have been to parent training classes from the Positive Coaching Alliance. I wish more parents (especially dads) would go through the same training.

Those games can get dangerous when the shoes become lost mid-kick and go airborne! We have some great coaches too. The third grade coach was yelling particularly loudly, "Great job!" after one girl shot on goal and missed. I love hearing that!

craver -- I think if you were there I would have seen you. But just in case...is the field behind 7-11?

That positive coaching thing sounds great.

AMM -- most of our shoes seem to be lost mid-run, which is mostly just funny.

Llama Papa did have to hold me back on Saturday, though, when Twin A. lost his shoe. I instinctively jumped up to help him when he said, "the coach will help him..." Of course. The coach. Mom's chopped liver, now!!

Sounds like a very cool group of folks--not so weirdly competitive and crazy like some leagues where even the tiny kids get yelled at. Yuck.

Soccer was actually one sport I liked as a kid, 'til it started to get all complicated with "offsides" and, well, "positions." Way more fun when everyone just runs all over the place chasing after the ball.

Hey Crabby -- (no, not you, Craver. The OTHER Crabby.)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Yours has been a great encouragement to me on my quest for a healthier lifestyle. :-)

There is nothing like watching your own kids in sports! I confess to being a loud mom on the sidelines (all positive), it is too much fun.

Kudos to your son's coach, that's how they all should act!

*gasp* I swear my comment was here yesterday when I left it...

Anyway, I figure you're enjoying watching sports because you're watching your KIDS play soccer, not just your kids playing SOCCER. (get what I mean?)

And take some video and send it in to AMV. Who knows, if you get on tape, you could get it in cash! :)

New Diva -- thanks for stopping by! Is this, by any chance, my Diva-blog-lurking friend??

SP -- dontcha hate it when that happens? I've got a few videos I should send in to AFV. Our wedding kiss, for instance. Let's just say it took me off guard, and the look on my face just might just be worth 10,000! :-)
