quote of the week

"Take the dinosaur out of your underwear and put your pajamas on."

It is funny how much fun boys have stuffing things in their underwear. Wait until they have a contest on who can stuff a whole roll of toilet paper in their underwear. Quite a feat when they are a size 2 and a size 5. I have pictures!! Of course I was unaware of this contest until it was completed!

I tell you, this boy thing is like another world, isn't it? Who knew? Often, I just look at my husband and ask, "is this normal?" He just nods his head. Yup. Normal.

Don't know anything about the boy thing, but I'm glad you share so I can experience a tiny bit vicariously.

Save that quote. Like in a baby book or something. I'm making a note to myself that my girls' scrapbooks ought to contain more of those kinds of glimpses into their young lives.

Baby books! Right. Um, sure. We've got those. Everybody has those. Um. Yeah. I'll get right on that. ;-)

This sounds like one of those quotes that's taken out of context and really means something else. But the more I read about your boys, the more I realize that there must certainly have been an actual dinosaur in there. I don't have children, but my best friends do, and I hear these kinds of things all the time. Where would we be without kids?

I also really appreciated your post about the difficulties with motherhood. I am in awe of women who survive motherhood! (And make it look easy!)

Oh BOY. I laughed out loud at that one. That had to be hard to keep a straight face while delivering that line...

Charity - There was, indeed, a small plastic dinosaur in someone's underwear.

Thank you for your thoughts on motherhood. I thought the whole thing would come so naturally and pregnancy would transform me into an Elmo-loving, snot wiping, happy-to-be-home-all-day kind of woman. It didn't. Being able to be real about what is good and what is hard has helped me enjoy this season of life -- and, of course, laughing about it all is such a good thing!! (For all of us, I think, laughter is a balm and a blessing, smoothing over so much that is hard in life.)

Me - My husband delivered the line with a perfectly straight face; it was only later that we both laughed and laughed, "did you EVER think you'd hear yourself saying such a thing?"
