reconnecting

“How did you do all of this alone?” my husband rolls over in bed to ask. Good question. The answers roll off the tip of my tongue: “You do what you have to”; “Not very well”; and “I honestly don’t know.”

What I do know is that I wake up happy and excited to get out of bed now. I don’t pull the covers over my head and wish it would all go away anymore. I feel connected to my spouse. I am enjoying our children. And this is a huge change for me.

Since my husband was laid off, we’ve taken some time to think and pray about our next steps. Thankfully, our finances are in good shape and we have this luxury of time. I didn’t realize how desperately we needed this time together until it was here.

And we’re thoroughly enjoying it.

We’re thinking through what it would look like to take a sabbatical. We’re setting some goals individually and as a family. We’re carefully planning and scrutinizing the financial ramifications of such an endeavor. And we’re excited for our future. I daresay I’m more excited for our future today than I was on our wedding day over ten years ago. And that, my friends, is some kind of miracle.

God is good.

That sounds so wonderful and you have obviously been very smart with finances to be able to take this much needed time together without the stress that would normally overtake a family during a job loss. I'll be praying for you as you ponder your next move! And, enjoy this season!!!

What a blessing! I can't wait to hear more about what God does during this time.

So glad you can see the upside here. It's hard, though, to lose our familiar lives sometimes. Takes trust, and hope.

I needed that.

Sounds pretty great, this re-focus, re-connecting.

I know you have been down this road before (and helped us find our way on this same path.)

I was just checking in to see how many offers LLama Papa had and if any incredible offers have come in yet.

Would love it if you considered moving a couple hours north! :)

Love you guys.

lady why -- thanks for stopping by, and for your prayers!

SP -- a blessing-- yes!! Thank you for sharing our excitement!

LL -- In this situation, giving up the familiar was hard only for a moment -- truly. The job was so hard on our family. So. Hard.

Jenny -- I suppose it's all a matter of perspective, isn't it? Most things are.

23 -- Thank you for your encouragement, my friend! Yes, we're pros at this whole layoff thing. :-) And he got an offer the day after he lost his job...doing much the same thing. That's when we looked at eachother and said, "let's not." The jobs are there, but we're really thinking about stepping out of the rat race for a season. Crazy, I know!!!

We've got no plans to move at this point, but we'd love to have you guys visit! (Or vice versa...)

I will pray for the new job prospects. Meanwhile, it is great to see your thoughts on planning a kind of family sabbatical. Say hello to your husband for me.
