children's clothes - WFMW

When I was pregnant with the twins, nobody warned me of the chaos that was about to enter my house. Oh, they mentioned the craziness of feeding and bathing two babies, and the sleepless nights. But nobody warned me about the children’s clothes.

They’ve taken over my house.

I’ve spent countless hours trying to remedy this. My current solution? Give up. You read that correctly: just give up.

Cram as many clothes as you can into their dresser drawers. It doesn’t matter if they fit or not. You can deal with that day-by-day every time your child gets dressed. Anything that doesn’t fit, just throw on the floor. Schooch the pile close to the edge of the room. (It will be easier to ignore that way.)

Every time you’re at Target, buy a couple of those plastic blue bins. When winter comes, throw all of the shorts and t-shirts into the bins. Put the bins in the basement, but don’t label them. That way you can spend hours going through all of the clothes every time the seasons change or the baby is ready for a bigger size.

Stop thinking about the clothes as a headache; embrace them as a hobby. A way of life, even. Clothes all over the house? Works for me! (It must. I’ve been living this way for five-and-a-half years!)

Now, if you’re looking for REAL ideas, head over to Rocks in My Dryer for more great tips!

Well, that works for ME, but I don't think my perfectionist husband would go for it! :)

Hmmm...

I'm pretty sure that you copied that tip from my life! But you forgot the essential piles of dirty laundry added to the equation.

Oh- and don't forget to periodically give up on sorting the clothes. Just give them all to Goodwill and buy new ones at Target!

Then start saving them again for next time (because this time I really will use them right?!!)

Oh do I sooo relate. Yesterday afternoon was spent pulling out bigger clothes from crawl for Timid Daughter and moving too-small ones into the crawl. But it also meant moving some things around between her and BOTH of her sisters. There was a lot of flinging and piles on the floor and finding clothes stuffed willy-nilly in boxes. Any dealing with clothes is a project and a half.

Tomorrow I'm off to Target for more socks for TD. : )

Craver -- are you blinking because you're shocked that I'm a children's clothing snob or are my ads just getting too colorful? ;-)

It is good to know that I have been living with the proper clothes philosophy since approximately 1985. I am attempting to convert my husband and teach my daughter the ways of the piles. I have recently decided to give up on some clothes from the great weight gain of 2000 so I can reuse the bins and I found some from approximately 1997. As for bins, everytime i fill one up, I buy a new one. I always come across another NB size item to toss in with whatever size I am currently packing to keep my on my toes.

Yep - I HATE sorting clothes and storing clothes and trying to keep the clothes in the drawers (our two-year old loves to open drawers and fling anything he finds). I don't even try to get my husband to figure out which drawer holds shorts and which holds pajamas, etc. I'm just happy he helps with laundry!

We keep two baskets in the closet - one for dirty laundry and one for outgrown clothes. That helps a little, but I hate it when the outgrown basket gets full and I need to actually deal with it...
